Dr. Graham Ives, MD is a Beverly Hills–based plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in facial feminization surgery (FFS) and tracheal shave for transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse patients. He holds teaching roles at the USC Plastic Surgery Residency Program and maintains clinical affiliations with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Ives’ research has advanced the field of gender-affirming facial surgery, with a particular emphasis on hairline feminization. He co-authored a landmark study on the temporal rotation flap technique, a novel approach that reshapes the temples and lowers the hairline simultaneously, achieving a more naturally rounded and feminine hairline for transfeminine patients. This method has shown excellent outcomes with no major complications, representing a major step forward in surgical hair restoration for gender-affirming care.

In another study, Dr. Ives helped analyze how transfeminine patients perceive feminine facial contours compared to the general population. Findings revealed that transfeminine individuals often favor stronger feminine traits and are more sensitive to masculine features, insights that help surgeons better align surgical planning with patient goals.

Upper Face

• Hair restoration — Includes hairline restoration and hair implants to feminize the hairline or add fullness. Dr. Ives also performs scalp advancement, including combining scalp advancement with hair grafting for the most optimal result.
• Forehead contouring — Forehead and orbit bony contouring which refines the forehead shape and reshapes the orbits to create a brighter, softer, and more feminine contour.

Middle Face

Surgeries are performed at a private surgery center in Beverly Hills. Dr. Ives is affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and operates there when required by insurance.

Insurance Coverage

Dr. Ives is among the first surgeons in California to be in-network for both facial feminization surgery and hair transplant procedures, making care more accessible to patients with commercial insurance, including out-of-state Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans. Out-of-network agreements can often be negotiated, and reduced cash rates and financing options are also available.

Consultations

Consultations with Dr. Ives are available both in-person and virtually. A $200 consultation fee applies, but this is waived for in-network insurance patients (standard copay applies instead). Dr. Ives is a Member of WPATH and follows its Standards of Care. One mental health letter is required for gender-affirming facial surgery, even for self-pay.
