Dr. Byron Poindexter, MD is a board-certified plastic surgeon who performs Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, Virginia. He offers procedures for the upper, middle and lower face, including forehead recontouring, rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation and chin surgery.

Facial Feminization Procedures

Dr. Poindexter offers a range of procedures that can address different areas of the face:

• Hairline Advancement - moves the hairline forward to reduce forehead height and change the proportions of the upper face.
• Forehead Recontouring - reshapes the forehead to create a smoother, more feminine contour.
• Brow Lift - raises and repositions the brows to alter the appearance of the brow and upper face.
• Rhinoplasty - changes the size, shape or proportions of the nose to better harmonize with other facial features.
• Cheek Augmentation - adds volume and contour to the cheeks using implants, injectable fillers or fat grafting.
• Lip Lift - shortens the distance between the nose and upper lip while increasing visible upper-lip height.
• Chin Recontouring - reshapes the chin to change its width, projection or overall contour.
• Chin Augmentation - uses a chin implant to alter chin projection and facial proportions.

The procedures selected for FFS vary from patient to patient. Some people focus on one or two features, while others consider several procedures as part of a more extensive facial feminization surgery.

Planning Facial Feminization Surgery

An FFS consultation with Dr. Poindexter provides an opportunity to discuss the facial features a patient would like to change and which procedures may address those goals.

Both virtual and in-person consultations are available. The consultation fee is $100 and is applied toward surgery.

Typical wait times are:

• Consultation: 3-6 weeks
• Surgery: 3-6 weeks after consultation

Dr. Poindexter performs surgery at Austin-Weston's private surgical facility in Reston, Virginia, and is affiliated with INOVA Fair Oaks.

Facial Feminization Surgery Cost

Facial Feminization Surgery with Dr. Poindexter starts at $12,050, based on pricing from September 2025. Because FFS can involve different combinations of procedures, exact pricing is determined following consultation.

The quoted surgical fees include:

Payment options include cash, credit card and check. CareCredit financing is also available. Insurance, Medicaid and Medicare are not accepted.

FFS Surgery Requirements

Requirements may include:

• Medical clearance depending on medical history
• Smoking cessation for at least one month before surgery
• Applicable WPATH-based surgical criteria
• One or two referral letters from a qualified mental health professional, as required

Dr. Poindexter's practice provides care in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.

Austin-Weston has gender-affirming intake and administrative policies for transgender and nonbinary patients. These include inclusive intake forms, separate preferred and legal name fields, procedures for updating names and pronouns, staff training in gender diversity and a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination.
